The LA Times reports that the 24 GPS Satellites in use in the US are about to undergo an improvement program, estimated to cost $8 billion. The program would include replacement of each over the course of a decade, and would decrease the margin of error down to 3 feet from the current 20. Estimates show approximately 1 billion GPS receivers currently in the US taking advantage of the system.
