We got teased by it last week, and the Droid X is now official on Verizon, coming to stores on July 15th. Specs include:
- 4.3″, 16:9, 854×480 screen
- Android 2.1 OS (no Froyo or Flash)
- HDMI out and DLNA support
- 1GHz OMAP processor
- 8GB of internal storage and a 16GB card included, but compatible with 32GB SD cards for a total potential memory of 40GB.
- 512mb RAM
- 8 megapixel camera that captures 720p HD video
- Three microphones (outward-facing for video, noise-canceling, and regular)
- 1570mAh battery
- GPS
- Bluetooth
- WiFi
Video is a big part of the Droid X experience, and the device will have the following apps included:
- Blockbuster for renting or buying movies
- V CAST video
- NFL Mobile
- Skype
- Backup Assistant
The Droid X will be available July 15th for $199 after $100 rebate. Data service will be $29.99 and mobile hotspot functionality will cost an additional $20 per month with a 2GB cap. Any Verizon customer whose contracts ends anytime in 2010 is eligible for the upgrade pricing. Preorders of the new device are now underway at Best Buy locations.
Also during the press conference, Executive Senior Vice President John Stratton emphasized the new device will come with a $30 unlimited data plan. The statement comes a week after a Verizon executive said publicly the company will move toward usage-based billing on wireless data services.
