UAE and Saudi Arabia to ban Blackberry

1 08 2010

Two Gulf stats are looking to ban certain functions of Blackberry device, siting security as the reason.  The United Arab Emirates is planning to start blocking the sending of emails, instant messages and accessing the internet on Blackberry devices starting in October.  Saudi Arabia is planning to prevent Blackberry Messenger services starting in September.  Both nations are unhappy that they are unable to monitor communications between handsets as data is encrypted and sent to servers in Canada for processing.  There are an estimated 500,000 Blackberry users in the UAE, and 400,000 in Saudi Arabia.
