During a press conference co-sponsored by AT&T, RIM unveiled its QWERTY slider 9800 Blackberry Torch. The device has a 3.2-inch, HVGA touchscreen display and an optical trackpad. It will run the recently announced BlackBerry 6 OS. Specs include a 624MHz processor, 512MB of RAM, plus 4GB of Flash storage, in addition to a 4GB preloaded microSD card. New software features will be found in all Blackberry OS6 devices including tabbed browsing, multi-touch, and pinch-to-zoom capabilities. A new social networking feed application will come bundled with the device, with support for Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. A 5 megapixel camera, support for Wi-Fi with 802.11n networking, tri-band HSDPA and quad-band EDGE round out the features. The phone will be available on August 12 for $200 with a 2 year agreement.
The Globe in Canada’s reports that the three largest wireless carriers — Bell, Rogers, and Telus — all will be carrying the Torch in the near future. Rogers has officially confirmed the report with a press release saying they will have the 9800 in the “coming weeks”.
