AT&T released 20 press releases on Thursday, stating that the carrier has spent over $3.5 billion in the first half of 2010 to update it’s network. Service enhancements as an example in the Phoenix area include:
- $75 million of capital invested in the area.
- Adding 29 new cell sites throughout the state, including in cities such as Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tucson and Flagstaff. These additions create more network capacity so wireless coverage is expanded and improved;
- An additional 98 antenna locations focused on high-traffic areas like Scottsdale;
- Upgrading five additional cell sites to mobile broadband service, the fastest wireless technology AT&T provides;
- Deploying additional radio carriers in Phoenix and Tucson to improve the quality and coverage of wireless voice and data connections;
- The investment also includes upgrades to the AT&T wireline infrastructure, such as additional AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots and extended reach of broadband services.
Other spending included $1.1 billion in California, $350 million in Illinois and $275 million in New York City.
