Verizon Wireless Sunday said they it will pay up to $90 million to 15 million cell phone customers that were incorrectly charged for internet data use. In the statement, Verizon said that the customers will either receive credits from $2 to $6 on their upcoming bill, or a check will be sent out to those who are no longer with the carrier. According to the NY Times:
“Verizon Wireless said that the charges affected customers who did not have data usage plans but who were nevertheless billed because of data exchanges initiated by software built into their phones or because of mistaken charges for inadvertent episodes of Web access.”
In response, Mary Coyne, General Council for Verizon said, “Verizon Wireless values our customer relationships and we always want to do the right thing for our customers.”
