Verizon Wireless Thursday began offering a new unlimited service branded “Verizon Unleashed,” offering prepaid unlimited wireless voice, text and data for $50 per month. The service will compete head to head with Boost Mobile, MetroPCS and Cricket Wireless. Hardware choices include three feature phones: a clamshell LG Accolade for $40, slideout qwerty LG Cosmos for $99, and the Qwerty Pantech Caper for $79.99.
Users can also choose per-day and per-minute pricing. Options include:
- Unlimited voice for $1.99 per day, with $.02 texts and unlimited web browsing for $.99 per day
- Unlimited Verizon calling for $.99 per day with calling to other numbers costing $.10 per minute, texts costing 10 cents per message and mobile Web browsing costing $.99 per day.
Currently, the service is not being advertised, though http://www.verizonwireless.com/unleashed is active, and displays all the information about plans and devices. Verizon last year tested a $50 prepaid monthly unlimited plan across 11 states Southeast.
