An internal memo to Verizon employees on Monday confirmed that the carrier will begin tiered data plans starting July 7th. The plans will range from $30-$80 per month for 2GB to 10GB of data. The pricing will be the same for both 3G and 4G data. Here are the details:
- Pay per use – $0/month, and $2 per MB
- 75MB – $10/month
- 2GB – $30/month
- 5GB – $50/month
- 10GB – $80/month
Plans with tethering will also be changed, tack on $20 to the above plans:
- 4GB – $50/month
- 7GB – $70/month
- 12GB – $100/month
Any additional data will be billed at a rate of $10 per 1GB. Customers currently on unlimited plans will not be required to switch, and contracts will not be effected. It also seems that you’ll be able to keep the plan when upgrading to a new smartphone, though not when going from a featurephone to a smartphone, or adding an additional line. Further, anyone signing up for a Verizon plan before 7/7 will still be eligible for unlimited data at $29.99, though you will not be able to choose any of the tethering options. Verizon confirmed the unlimited offering will cease to AllThingsD, but declined to share any additional details.

These are speeds that have only been rivaled by LTE, and I’m not quite ready yet to make the jump to a 2-year LTE plan with Verizon, especially with the recent news of tiered data plans. [...]
