Google’s Android Market passed over 400,000 applications this week, catching up quickly to Apple’s App Store with just over 530,000. According to Distimo, the catalog took 40 months to hit the mark. The Android Market is currently comprised of 68% free apps, vs. the Apple App Store, which has less than 50% free.
In other app news, both Android and iOS users combined downloaded 1.2 billion new apps to their devices in the last week of 2011.
