Cricket Communications parent company Leap Wireless has begin deploying a CDMA 1X Advanced network to help the carrier handle traffic more efficiently. Cricket is currently selling one compatible 1X Advanced device, the Huawei Mercury, and will expand the lineup of devices that can use the new technology to all new devices by the third quarter. 1X advanced supports up to four times the number of voice calls ont he same frequencies as existing CDMA 1X networks. 1X Advanced supports simultaneous voice and data through SVDO, through no word if Cricket will be supporting the feature.
