California Thursday voted to require certain energy efficient standards on laptop, tablet and cell phone chargers starting next year. The new law is hoping to save energy consumers, and cut down on wasted electricity when chargers are plugged in and not being used. According to the report, 13% of all power used in California is due to chargers plugged in to walls, but without a device attached. $306 million in energy is expected to be saved with the adoption of the requirement. The new law goes into effect February 1st, 2013.
