Sprint’s SVP David Owens at CES this week said that his company does not plan to release any more WiMAX devices. The carrier recently made the decision to move its 4G roadmap to LTE, and announced its first two devices, the Galaxy Nexus and LG Viper at the show this week.
Owens also stated that Android and iPhones remain the top selling smartphones for the company, and they’re seeing little consumer enthusiasm for Microsoft’s Windows Phone. According to Owens:
“We have a Windows device in our lineup, but honestly, it hasn’t done well enough for us to jump back into the fire. We told Microsoft: You guys have to go build the enthusiasm for the product. We’ll train our reps on why it’s great…[but] the number-one reason the product was returned was the user experience,” he said.
Ownes did not comment about RIM’s BlackBerry, though the carrier does sell multiple smartphones on the platform.
