Nielsen Wednesday released its Q4 2011 US smartphone data, stating that Android and iOS now account for nearly 90% of all new smartphone purchases. According to the report, 51.7% of US smartphone customers chose Android in the last three months of the year, and 37% chose iOS. RIM’s BlackBerry share was a mere 6%, while Windows Phone only hit 1.4%.
Overall, the company says currently 46.3% of US smartphone users are on Android handsets, while 30% use iPhones, 14.9% use BlackBerries and 1.3% use Windows Phone.
