European Commission approves Sony Ericsson buyout

The European Commission Friday approved Sony’s intention to purchase Ericsson’s half of the joint venture of the combined entity.  Announced in October, Sony will take five patent families along with an IP cross-licensing agreement from the transaction which will cost €1.05 billion.   The transaction should be finalized within a few weeks.
