Vonage Wednesday announced new applications for Android and iOS, allowing users to call and text other Vonage users for free. The app word over WiFi, or mobile networks, and says costs of international calls are 30% less than Skype’s rates. The Vonage app runs in the background on a user’s device, allowing calls and messages to come in even when the app isn’t running. In-app purchases of $4.99 or $9.99 can be made on either platform, allowing the user to skip the use of a credit card for paid calls. App users will be able to call Vonage Home lines free, and for a limited time, make free calls to any mobile or landlines in the US, Canada or Puerto Rico.
