Reports began to surface early in the week that the iPad 3 would be coming soon, with additional details confirmed by sources. Both iMore and the Wall Street Journal reported on the story, withiMore quoting sources that say the announcement will occur on Wednesday March 7th. Further, they say the main features include a 2048 by 1536 retina display, quad-core A6 processor, and LTE networking.
The Wall Street Journal confirmed this, saying:
“Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc. will sell a version of the coming iPad that runs on their newest fourth-generation wireless networks, according to people familiar with the matter, as the battle to cash in on big investments in mobile broadband heats up.
Apple Inc. appears to be planning to announce the latest version of its tablet computer in the first week of March, according to another person briefed on the matter.
No word on whether other carriers will be involved in the LTE launch. The journal pointed out that the devices will fall back on 3G networks where 4G isn’t available.
