Following Monday’s report that AT&T and Verizon will be recipients of LTE enabled iPads this year, the Wall Street Journal said Apple is currently testing an 8-inch version of the device. According to the article:
Officials at some of Apple’s suppliers, who declined to be named, said the Cupertino, Calif.-based company has shown them screen designs for a new device with a screen size of around 8-inches, and said it is qualifying suppliers for it. Apple’s latest tablet, the iPad 2, comes with a 9.7-inch screen. It was launched last year.
The sources say the smaller tablet would have the same resolution display as the current model, 1024 by 768, and contain an LTE chip as rumored with the larger successor model.
Also of note, the Macrumors claims to have obtained a screen from iPad 3 production. The 9.7″ display is identical in physical size to current models, but has 4 times the pixes, putting it at 2,048-by-1,536 pixels.
