During its Q4 2011 earnings call Wednesday, Clearwire announced its 4G LTE network would be deployed in 5,000 cell sites by June of 2013. Clearwire CEO Erik Prusch said “not too terribly long” after that, coverage will expand to 8,000 sites. During the quarter Clearwire added 873,000 total net new subscribers, with 904,000 net new wholesale subscribers and a net loss of 31,000 retail subscribers. Clearwire’s ARPU was $46.69, up $1.17 from 2010, and churn was up 0.1% to 3.9 percent.
Also part of the filings, comments about cash flow, and the need for additional funding after the end of 2012. According to Clearwire:
“We do not expect our operations to generate cumulative positive cash flows during the next 12 months. We may need to raise substantial additional capital to fund our business.”
$600 million is expected to be spent over the next two years building the 4G LTE network.
