The Wall Street Journal Wednesday reported that Apple’s next iPhone will have a larger display, mirroring dozens of reports over the last few months. The Journal says that the panel orders have been replaced from LG, Sharp and Japan Display, and while the exact size is unknown, the source says it will be “at least” 4-inches. This report was independently confirmed mid-week also by Reuters.

Google reportedly will sell Nexus phones from multiple OEMs
15 05 2012The Wall Street Journal this week stated that Google is preparing to launch multiple Nexus handsets from various OEMs starting later this year. The source says that up to five different device makers will build the developer-type devices, and sell them in the US, Europe and Asia.

Sprint announces Mobile “TriFi” Hotspot coming May 18th
9 05 2012Sprint Wednesday announced the Sierra Wireless 4G LTE “TriFi” Hotspot. The device support CDMA, WiMAX and LTE, and will provide mobile internet access for up to eight devices. The TriFi goes on sale May 18th for $100 with two year agreement. Plans start at $35 per month for 3GB of data, and go to $80 per month for 12GB.

Boost and Virgin Mobile announce 4G service plans and devices
8 05 2012Sprint pre-paid carriers Boost and Virgin Mobile announced Tuesday new 4G plans and devices. Both will run on the WiMax network operated by Clearwire, available in 71 markets, and fallback on the 3G CDMA when necessary.
Boost Mobile is offering unlimited voice messages and data for $55 per month, and an Android Monthly Unlimited plan offers the $5 shrinkage plans for every 6-months of on-time payments. Along with the plan, Boost will offer the HTC Evo Design 4G on for $299. Specs include:
- 1.2GHz single-core processor
- 5MP camera
- 2GB of storage
- Android 4.0
- HTC Sense 3.6
Virgin Mobile will offer plans starting at $35 per month starting May 31st, including unlimited data and messaging, and 300 minutes for voice calls. Virgin will offer the HTC EVO V 4G, on sale starting May 31st for $300. Specs include:
- 4.3-inch qHD touchscreen
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
- HTC Sense 3.6
- Mobile hotspot capability – Connect up to five Wi-Fi devices
- 5MP camera with video and 3D HD imaging, and 1.3MP front-facing camera
- 1730mAh battery (up to six hours of talk time)
- 1GB RAM/4GB ROM
- External micro SD memory card slot up to 32GB (8GB card included)

And while both MVNO’s will have unlimited, un-throttled access to 4G data, Virgin will slow users’ CDMA data speeds after they consume 2.5 GB of data in a month. Users will be able to make use of the Evo V’s tethering services for an extra $15 per month (CDMA data speeds will be slowed after 3.5 GB of data per month). Boost currently does not throttle or cap its CDMA data service, however, ”later this year” it will begin slowing users’ CDMA speeds after they consume 2.5 GB of data in a month.

Three more regional networks announce iPhone offerings
8 05 2012Three additional regional carriers made announcements this week of upcoming iPhone offerings. They include:
- Bluegrass Cellular (Kentucky)
- Golden State Cellular (California)
- Nex-Tech Wireless (Kansas)
Each runs a CDMA network, and will offer the devices at $50 below the standard pricing model of Apple, meaning the iPhone 4S will be priced at $149/$249/$349 and the iPhone 4 will be available for $49.

Kyocera announces the Hydro and Rise
8 05 2012Kyocera Tuesday announced two new devices, the Hydro and the Rise. Both feature:
- 3.5-inch 320 x 480 IPS LCD display
- Android 4.0
- 1GHz Qualcomm
- 512MB of RAM
- 2GB of internal storage
- EVDO Rev. A 3G and 1X Advanced
- 3.2MP camera with LED flash
The Hydro is a water resistant phone that can stand water for up to 30 minutes of immersion or 3 minutes of continuous blasts. The Rise features a sideways slider with a qwerty keyboard. No pricing or availability were announced, nor were carrier partnerships or when this device may come to the US.

HTC One V coming to various US networks this summer
7 05 2012HTC Monday announced the One V will be coming to various networks in the US this summer. Announced back in February, the One V features a “chin”, similar to the original Android G1. The One V has a 1GHz single-core Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM and a WVGA (800×480) SuperLCD2 display running on Android 4.0. Look for the One V on MetroPCS, US Cellular and Virgin Mobile.
